AI Session Players: faster ideas, better parts
One of the biggest additions in Logic Pro 12 is AI Session Players, designed to help you build musical parts without getting stuck. Think of them like smart performers that react to your chords and the vibe you choose.

New Synth Player
Logic Pro 12 adds a new Synth Player that can generate keyboard and bass parts with simple controls. Instead of drawing every note, you can shape the performance quickly and still keep it musical.
Dynamic synth performances
You can also create evolving synth parts that don’t feel static. The generated performances can play notes while also moving the sound, giving your track more life without extra automation work.
Simple Pad, Modulated Pad, and Rhythmic Chords
For harmony and texture, Logic Pro 12 introduces styles like:
- Simple Pad for smooth layers behind your main parts
- Modulated Pad for motion and width
- Rhythmic Chords when you want chord movement that feels like a real performance
Quick synth bass styles
If your track needs low-end fast, there are built-in bass style options like 808 Bass, Pump Bass, and Sequenced Bass. These help you lock in the groove quickly, especially for pop, hip-hop, EDM, and modern beats.
Chord ID + auto-follow
Logic Pro 12 also improves the way Session Players follow your song. With Chord ID, Logic can detect chords from parts of your project, and your Session Players can follow along automatically. That means fewer manual edits when you change the harmony.
Logic Pro 12 Sound Library: preview, install, and manage packs easily
Logic Pro 12.0 adds a new Sound Library that makes finding sounds much easier.
- You can browse an expanding collection of sound packs inside Logic.
- You can listen to previews before installing.
- You can remove packs you don’t use anymore to free storage.
This is great if you want a cleaner system drive and only keep the sounds you actually use.
Core workflow upgrades and “small” changes that matter
Logic Pro 12 includes many quality-of-life updates that save time in real projects.
Multiple projects setting
There’s now a setting that lets you choose whether you can have more than one project open at the same time. If you jump between songs a lot (or you’re doing client work), this can be a big workflow win.
Quantec reverb gets deeper control
The Quantec reverb now includes extra controls like:
- pre-delay
- pre-cut
- pre-level
So you can shape the early feel and clarity more precisely.
Step Sequencer upgrades
Logic Pro 12 gives the Step Sequencer a lot of attention, including:
- MIDI 2.0 data display
- Easier editing for long patterns (you can copy, paste, or clear individual “pages”)
- A limit option for maximum boost in the Match EQ filter curve (great for avoiding harsh over-EQ)
- Multi-track selection support in Track Inspector, which makes batch edits easier
- New playback modes: Pendulum, Brownian, Arp1, and Arp2 (useful for variation and movement)
Flex Time option on new projects
When starting a new project, the New Project sheet now includes an option so Flex Time can be enabled from the beginning. This is handy if you almost always use timing tools.
Pattern region from a one-shot sample
You can now create a Pattern region by dragging a one-shot sample straight into Drum Machine Designer. That’s a very fast way to build beats from samples without extra setup.
Spatial Audio recordings from iPhone
Logic Pro 12 is now compatible with Spatial Audio recordings captured on iPhone. If you record ideas or ambience on your phone, it’s easier to bring them into your project.
Sampler: RMS-based zone selection
In Sampler, zones can now be selected based on RMS level. This helps when you’re working with multi-samples and want to manage layers by loudness more efficiently.

- quitting Logic while certain control surfaces are connected (including gear from Nektar Technology)
Performance is also improved for:
- rubber-band selection with a connected Nektar CS12
- creating tracks while Console Fader 1 is active
- learning control surface assignments when many mappings already exist
More improvements in Logic Pro 12 (Workflow + Fixes)
Logic Pro 12.0 doesn’t only add big headline features. It also improves the everyday parts of making music: exporting stems, Flex edits, Live Loops, MIDI handling, controller support, and many small editing tools. These updates help projects feel smoother, especially when you’re deep into a session and moving fast.
Bounce, export, and sharing improvements
Logic Pro 12 makes exporting more reliable and less annoying. When exporting tracks as audio files, you can now use “Alternative Name” as part of the file naming pattern, and “Group Name” can also be used as a file name element. If you bounce a file that has the same name as the folder you’re writing to, Logic no longer asks to replace it for no reason. Sharing AAC audio is also improved, because it fixes a case where shared AAC files could become unexpectedly large after using Lossless settings before.

There are also practical bounce fixes: the Bounce window no longer shows 320 kbps as a bit rate option for mono M4A files when it shouldn’t, and using a Marquee selection to bounce only part of a region to a track now works reliably. If you’re exporting MIDI, it’s better too — MIDI regions that were moved away from their original recorded positions can now be exported reliably, and exported MIDI regions now correctly include Clip Length and other region parameters. When bouncing with an active cycle zone, the cycle zone indicator in the ruler stays visible, which makes it easier to confirm what you’re actually bouncing.
Logic Pro 12 Flex and Flex & Follow fixes
Flex editing is cleaner in Logic Pro 12.0. It fixes issues where adjusting the left edge of a flexed region could cause the content to shift unexpectedly. If you use Speed as the Flex mode, the Region Inspector no longer shows transpose options that don’t apply. Waveforms in regions with Flex-time edits also stay stable when you scroll or change zoom, instead of jumping around.
Trimming is improved too. Logic fixes a case where trimming the left edge of a flexed region could unexpectedly shorten it when Snap Edits to Zero Crossings is enabled. And if you record audio in Cycle Mode on the first track of a project with Flex & Follow enabled, Logic no longer truncates the recording in certain “empty track” situations. It also fixes a case where the Flex & Follow anchor might not be visible, plus an issue where newly created regions could be unexpectedly truncated when Search Zero Crossings is enabled.
Live Loops updates
Live Loops gets small fixes that improve flow. Selecting a Session Player cell in the Live Loops grid no longer triggers the Cell and Track Inspectors to open unexpectedly. Also, the commands “Select All Following Cells” and “Select All Following Cells for Same Track” now work properly even if one or more empty cells are selected.
Logic Pro 12 MIDI improvements
Logic Pro 12 improves MIDI behavior in a few useful ways. Changing the icon for a Multi Instrument (and its sub-channels) no longer deletes custom bank messages. If you join multiple MIDI regions, the new combined region no longer keeps CC data that was outside the original region boundaries. There’s also a new global setting to enable MIDI Mono Mode automatically when loading an instrument plug-in or patch. And for modern workflows, it’s now possible to view MIDI 2.0 data in Step Sequencer (great if you’re using newer controllers).
Global Tracks improvements
Global Tracks are smoother in Logic Pro 12.0. Shift-selecting multiple Arrangement Markers now works as expected. You can rename a Marker directly in the Marker track while the Marker List is open. And custom Arrangement Marker names now appear in the dropdown menu, which makes arrangement navigation quicker.
Controller and key command improvements (huge for daily use)
If you use hardware controllers, Logic Pro 12.0 includes many fixes that make setups more stable and predictable — especially with Mackie-compatible control surfaces, plus common studio control workflows.
Logic Pro 12 Control surfaces and MIDI controllers
Logic Pro 12.0 fixes a bug where setting a Mackie-compatible control surface to Large Nudge mode while a MIDI cell is focused in Live Loops could cause an endless loop of commands. User assignments that don’t include a value change message are now kept correctly after closing the Controller Assignment editor. The Recording Light control surface now sends MIDI channel 1 messages on Channel 1 as expected, and custom assignment behavior for Mackie-compatible surfaces is more reliable overall.
The Control Surface Setup window now hides MIDI ports that are disabled (instead of showing them as Invalid), and when a plug-in window has focus, connected control surfaces that support plug-in editing will automatically show the plug-in controls. Assignments pinned to a track now show up correctly when the project opens, and user-created assignments are more reliably stored in the correct locations.
MIDI Learn gets better too. You can now exclude certain event types (like Notes or Sustain) from MIDI Learn, and the MIDI Learn toolbar shows the correct On/Off state for the selected control. It also fixes an issue where closing the Controller Assignments window without changes could cause the MIDI Learn toolbar display to stop working.
If you use Behringer controllers (like X-Touch), Logic fixes cases where faders could send random MIDI messages in certain invert range settings. If you use Nektar Technology controllers, Logic improves stability after idle time, and it fixes a case where turning off a connected CS12 control surface could unexpectedly change the MIDI Port setting for an External Instrument.
There are also several quality fixes: manually learned control surface fader bank messages now show color bars in the Mixer, assignment display is improved, HUI-compatible control surfaces show level meter activity on channel 8, and more assignment commands behave correctly (including Command-G searching inside the Controller Assignments window).
Key Commands, Undo, and Smart Tempo
Logic Pro 12.0 adds and fixes key command behavior. There are now key commands to control the display of Automation Subtracks, and key commands to jump to the start/end of the Audio File Editor window now work correctly. There are also new key commands to trigger functions in plug-in header menus, and deleted control surface assignments in the Key Commands window are removed immediately.
Undo is improved too: undoing a change to a region border no longer also reverts Flex Pitch edits made to that region. Smart Tempo gets a fix where “Apply Region Tempo to Project Tempo” now aligns downbeats correctly for regions in a 6/4 time signature.
Spatial Audio, Screensets, Recording, Score, Import, Editing, and General fixes
Logic Pro 12.0 improves Spatial Audio exports: bounced Atmos projects no longer have an unexpected fade at the start, and manual Trim controls for 5.1.4 downmixes now write correctly to ADM exports. Screensets are also more reliable — a screenset that shows only SMPTE/Beat counters no longer blocks other screensets from being recalled.
Recording playback now behaves correctly after recording audio when Software Monitoring is off and Quick Punch is on. In Score view, zoom key commands work properly, the right end of a slur can be dragged to another note, chord symbols don’t overlap in bar repeat bars, and copy/paste notes behaves correctly in more edge cases. Importing is improved for Final Cut Pro XML (FCPXML): when multiple video clips share the same start time, Logic imports the longest clip, and user audio files stored in the project folder import reliably.
Editing gets nice quality upgrades too: notes in Piano Roll that occur before the region start now show velocity handles, time-stretching a MIDI region shows the stretched result in real time while you adjust it, Piano Roll automation display now shows the region-based automation parameter the project was saved with, and “Select All Muted Notes” works even when nothing is selected. There’s also a new Scale Snap option, which lets MIDI notes snap to a specific scale while entering notes or after recording/inserting them — very helpful for clean melodies without “wrong notes.”
Finally, general behavior is cleaner: Snap Regions to Absolute Value is now the default snap setting, selecting regions/tracks consistently ignores hidden tracks and their regions, SMPTE-locked MIDI regions can be split correctly, zooming over the Track List keeps focus at the beginning of the track, and soloing a track with the Power switch off now reactivates it.
